Petschorsk ( Russian Печёрск ) is a village (selo) in Rajon Smolensk of Smolensk Oblast in Russia . The place has 3884 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
location
Pechorsk is located about seven kilometers north of the Oblast capital Smolensk . The Russian M1 , which runs from Moscow to Minsk , runs north of the town . The village is the administrative seat of the rural municipality Pechorskoje selskoje posselenije with four localities.
history
The name of Pechorsk can be derived from the Old East Slavic "печера", which means something like "cave", referring to hermits living in "caves" . In the village there is a church from 1768, which is consecrated to the orthodox Saint Anthony of Kiev (Russian Antoni Pechorski ) and Saint Theodosius based on the place name .
