The Frojach parish church is located in Frojach in the Teufenbach-Katsch community in the Murau district in Styria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. Andrew is part of the Murau deanery in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

Church and parish Frojach are mentioned for the first time in a document issued on June 3, 1215 in Leibnitz. Originally there was a manorial estate here, which lay directly on the then Mur. This church was torn away by a flood in 1711.

Today's church “in the shadow”, further away from the Mur, began as a small Protestant chapel. Construction began around 1527 and was completed around 1555. Today's Frojach-Oberdorf was built around this little church as a church hamlet . The building had been abandoned by the Counter Reformation around 1600 and was taken over as the parish church of the Catholics. As a result, the church became too small and expanded in 1722. The last change was made in 1898/99, during which time the church was rebuilt and mainly the choir from the 16th century was preserved.

architecture

The late Gothic two-bay choir with and slightly projecting network ribs five eighths circuit and ogival windows has a vault with Putzgraten in diamond star shapes in semi-circular services with bead capitals and semicircular service like pillars which are also located on the outside. The constricted round-arched front arch separates the choir from the broad nave , which is designed as a hall with a flat ceiling . The nave has neo-Gothic pointed arch windows and a side chapel to the south and north . The roof turret wears an eight-sided pointed helmet . The sacristy to the north of the choir has a barrel vault with stitch caps.

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic furnishings were built in 1899 and 1900. The picture of St. Andrew on the high altar bears a signature by Felix Barazzutti with the year 1899. Furthermore, there are two baroque statues of hll in the church. Florian and Leonhard from the 1st half of the 18th century. There are also two votive pictures, of which the large plague votive picture bears the chronogram 1715 and is labeled Georg Lercher 1717, the donor of the picture. There is also a coat of arms stone of Victor von Pranckh, who died in 1584 . Under the pulpit of the church, as well as in the churchyard wall, there are walled relief stones from Roman times . The walled-in late Roman relief under the pulpit shows a female figure with an urn and box.

A wrought iron cross from the 2nd half of the 17th century and a baroque cemetery cross from the 18th century have been preserved in the cemetery surrounding the church.
