The parish church of Gaschurn is in the municipality of Gaschurn in the Montafon in Vorarlberg . The Roman Catholic parish church Archangel Michael belongs to the deanery of Montafon of the diocese of Feldkirch . The church is a listed building .

history

In 1485 a Michael chapel was built and in 1587 it was separated from St. Gallenkirch and made a parish church. It was not until 1629 that the parish received a pastor, Johannes Viel. In 1634 a new church was consecrated. The church, which stood in the middle of the cemetery, was demolished in 1867 and between 1867 and 1868 the church opposite the cemetery was built according to plans by Johann Meyer from Schwyz and consecrated in 1869 by the Bishop of Linz, Franz Joseph Rudigier .

architecture

The parish church is a neo-Romanesque church with a transept and choir under a gable roof with a north-facing church tower and a south-facing sacristy. In 1871 Franz Bertle painted two ceiling paintings in the nave and in 1872 the Bertle brothers erected the three altars. In 1905 frescoes by Jakob Bertle were created. The glass paintings are from the Tyrolean glass painting company . The Stations of the Cross as reliefs were created by August Valentin (around 1900).

The organ was built by the Mayer brothers (1883).

Cemetery with chapel

The cemetery chapel with Lourdes grotto is a barrel-vaulted room with a fresco of Christ with dead soldiers by Konrad Honold from 1951.
