Parish church Schnifis
The Roman Catholic parish church Schnifis is located in the Schnifis community in the Feldkirch district in Vorarlberg . It is consecrated to St. John the Baptist and belongs to the Feldkirch deanery in the Feldkirch diocese . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).
Location description
The church stands in the east of the parish and is surrounded by a cemetery.
history
Around 830 an "ecclesia" is mentioned in a document in Schnifis. A parish has also existed for a long time. A church was consecrated in 1535. In 1817 the nave was expanded, and in 1972 and 1973 it was rebuilt and redesigned.

- Church exterior
The church is a new building with a nave and a retracted 3/8 choir. The south transept is under a gable roof . The nave and choir are not three-dimensionally structured. On the west facade is a brick porch with a conical roof. The north tower has flat arch sound openings and round arch openings in the gables.
- Church interior
The roof structure is open to the interior. Large rectangular windows break through the nave walls. The wall of the choir arch is drawn in. In the anteroom there is a glass painting that shows "Jesus with disciples", "Pope Pius X. ", "St. Peter " and "Pope Pius XII." “Represent.

On the west facade is a holy water font that is dated 1692. The holy water font by the choir was created in 1719. On the outer wall are the tombstones of Katharina Müller († 1704), Barbara Grommi († 1710), Maria Nesasoni († 1717) and Michael Zürcher with coat of arms († 1783)
- Church interior
The people's altar, the ambo and the tabernacle were made by Herbert Albrecht in 1972 and 1973. The font is Gothic . On the right wall of the choir arch is a baroque replica of a Gothic Pietà from around 1450. In the choir hangs a crucifix from the end of the 18th century. There are also four silver-plated wooden busts of the Saints Joseph Jesus , Mary and Magdalena in the church .
organ
The organ made by Rieger Orgelbau in 1973 is in the right aisle.
Rectory
In the north of the church is the rectory based on plans by Hugo Purtscher from 1974.
