The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Margareten in the Rosental is elevated on the southwest edge of the village of St. Margareten in the Rosental / Šmarjeta v Rožu . A church in St. Margareten was first mentioned in documents in 1346. The community was raised to a parish in 1430, which was cared for by the Cistercians of the Viktring Abbey from 1443 until the abolition of the monastery in 1787. It is consecrated to St. Margaret .

Building description

inside view

The church is essentially a medieval building that was renovated in the baroque era . The late Gothic tower with arched sound windows is crowned by an eight-sided pointed helmet. Peter Pfinzing cast a bell in the 16th century. To the west of the tower, a vestibule with a lancet vault was probably added in 1720. You enter the church through a keel- arched, profiled west portal from the late Gothic period. The vestibule on the first floor of the tower has a ribbed vault from the 15th century and is opened to the nave through a pointed arcade.

In the three-bay nave there is a barrel vault with stitch caps from the 17th century. A round arched triumphal arch connects the nave and the retracted, groin-vaulted choir with a five-eighth end . In the choir there is a sacrament niche with a late Gothic rosette grille. On the north side of the choir there is a baroque sacristy with a barrel vault.

Facility

The Baroque high altar from 1754 was in 1768 by Anton Jaggl taken while with older Akanthusschnitzwerk added. The central figure of Saint Margaret is flanked by the statues of Saints Barbara and Agnes . The sculptures of Saints Martin and George are on the side on consoles .

The left side altar made towards the end of the 17th century bears the figures of Saints Michael , Lucia and Agathe . The right side altar with a Pietà in front of a cross and angels with instruments of the Passion dates from the middle of the 18th century. The four evangelists are depicted in medallions on the pulpit basket from the middle of the 18th century . The church also features a baroque statuette of Mary Magdalene and John the Evangelist, as well as a late Gothic baptismal font . A late Gothic crucifix made around 1510/1520 is in custody.
