history

A church at this location was first mentioned in a document in 1179. The construction of today's parish church in late Gothic style began around 1484 and was partially completed around 1527. In 1575 a sacristy was added. The tower was completed in 1629. This massive bell tower originally had a stone helmet with four graceful side towers, but received an onion helmet in 1807. In 1899 the church tower was designed in a neo-Gothic style and received triangular gables, which house the dials, as well as an octagonal, pyramid-shaped steep roof with a total height of 52 m. In 1916 the five bronze church bells and the copper tower roof were removed. A provisional cover with tar paper existed until 1920, until 1953 the tower roof was covered with wooden shingles.

In 1961 the interior was renovated, the neo-Gothic side altars came off and were replaced by baroque pictures depicting St. George (left) and the birth of the Lord (right). 1968 Baroque high altar of St. Ägydy in Thalheim was here translocated . In 1990 a major interior renovation and redesign of the parish church took place. In 2015 the parish church was extensively renovated and the church tower roof was completely renovated, with a copper covering and the renovated tower cross.
