The Roman Catholic parish church of Wimpassing an der Leitha stands on a hill above the village in the municipality of Wimpassing an der Leitha in the Eisenstadt-Umgebung district in Burgenland . The parish church of the Immaculate Conception belongs to the dean's office in Eisenstadt in the diocese of Eisenstadt . The church is a listed building .

history

The church with the former Minorite monastery is surrounded by a fortified wall from the 16th century. The church of the medieval parish was named in the 14th century. In 1587 a Franciscan monastery was founded with Baron von Stotzingen . After the older church was expanded, the church was consecrated in 1593. In 1628 the Minorites took over the monastery. Churches and monasteries were destroyed in the Turkish War in 1683. The new church was consecrated in 1723. In 1787, after the abolition of the monastery, a secular parish was founded. From 1929 - with the exception of the war years - the Camillians took over the monastery. Renovations were carried out in 1882/1883, an interior restoration in 1952/1960. After a fire, the interior was restored in 1972/74.

The uniform baroque building has a cruciform floor plan through cross-arm-like extensions of the eastern nave yoke .

Furnishing

Cafeteria with tabernacle

The decor of the church is remarkable. The high altar has a wide tabernacle with side wings on a free-standing cafeteria around 1780.

Minorite monastery / rectory

The use of the former Minorite monastery and rectory was (Dehio 1976) a boarding school with a special school. There is a Bründl chapel at the rectory .

Churchyard

The buildings, which are enclosed by a defensive wall, also include a cemetery, a farmyard and the monastery garden. The outside staircase on the south side of the church hill was built in 1891.
