history
Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .
Finds from the Neolithic indicate a prehistoric settlement history.
Later under the Romans, today's Wimpassing was then in the province of Pannonia .
In 1587 the Franciscans founded a monastery in Wimpassing, in which some German-language prints appeared in the last decade of the 16th century, such as the Psalter von Wimpassing (1593) and other religious works. Wimpassing was the first place in what is now Austria to produce German-language book printing. The monastery was used by the Minorites from 1628 and was initially closed in 1787 under Joseph II .
Like the whole of Burgenland, Wimpassing an der Leitha belonged to Hungary (German West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Vimpác be used. After the end of the First World War, after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).
In 1929 the Kamillian Nursing Order came to Wimpassing and has been using the former Franciscan monastery ever since.

coat of arms
The coat of arms is held in the colors red-gold-blue.
Blazon : The golden cross stands for the Wimpassinger Cross and the parish church of the Immaculate Conception. The golden bridge and the blue Leitha refer to historical and topographical elements - instead of today's Wimpassing there was a border guard settlement on the Leitha bridge in the early Middle Ages - but the location of the border community on the Leitha is also symbolized. The bridge has always been a symbol of people's striving to overcome what divides them and in this way to connect the country and its people with their cultures, ideas, views and values.
