The arrow-leaved pond rose ( Nuphar sagittifolia (Walter) Pursh , syn .: Nuphar lutea subsp. Sagittifolia (Walter) EO Beal , Nymphaea sagittifolia Walter ) is a species of the water lily family (Nymphaeaceae).

The arrow-leaved pond rose is a perennial aquatic plant with a rhizome that is 2 to 2.5 cm in diameter. The floating leaf blade is broadly linear to almost lanceolate, is three to five times as long as it is wide and measures 15 to 30 (rarely up to 50) × 5 to 10 (rarely up to 11.5) centimeters.

The hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers are 2 to 3 cm in diameter. There are six sepals . There are many spirally arranged petals . The scar disc has ten to 14 rays. The flowering period extends from June to August.

The green, egg-shaped fruit is 3 to 3.5 cm long and 2 to 3 cm in diameter; it is smooth at the base and strongly ribbed towards the top. The seeds are 4 to 5 mm in size.

Occurrence

The arrow-leaved pond rose occurs in warm temperate eastern North America in rivers, ponds and lakes near the coast at altitudes of 0 to 50 meters. Their original occurrences are in South Carolina , in eastern North Carolina and in southeastern Virginia .

The arrow-leaved pond rose is used as an aquarium plant and rarely as an ornamental plant in garden ponds.
