The horse mountain ( 406 m ) is a wooded basalt knoll in the Großhennersdorfer Lösshügelland in eastern Upper Lusatia . It is located in the Oberherwigsdorf district in the Mittelherwigsdorf community .
location
The horse mountain is located between Oberherwigsdorf, Niederoderwitz and Oberseifersdorf . To the north of Birkberg (rising 370 m ) and the Sonnenhübel ( 469 m ), northeast of Steinberg ( 373 m of Landsberg), south ( 313 m ) and northwest of Hutberg ( 405 m ).
description
The Pferdeberg is part of a coherent basalt cover that extends from the Geiersberg ( 376 m ) over the Hutberg to the Pferdeberg in a south-westerly direction. Basalt used to be mined in small quarries on the southern slope.
The Kohlige forest, also known as Kohliche, extends on its northeast slope. Because of the soils that are soaked in the spring and cannot be used for agriculture, the small forest area was preserved and is the largest forest area in the Oberherwigsdorf district. The Eckartsbach , the Krebsbach and the Neufeldenwasser have their source in the Kohlige .
The sources of the Rietschebach and the Black Trench lie on the southern slope of the mountain, while the Höllgraben rises on the western slope.
