The Phenomenon 4RL was a type of truck from the Phenomena Werke Gustav Hiller AG . The type designation Phenomen 4RL means 4 wheels , air-cooled . Further letters after the name denoted: K for box body , P for platform vehicle and M stood for dump truck .

After the success of the Phenomobile , especially its popularity with the Deutsche Reichspost , a successor model was developed that met the growing needs of the Post. A multitude of variants, whether as an ambulance , flatbed, box or bus , made the phenomenon 4 RL a successful model.

The 4RL phenomenon was advertised as “the van that doesn't need maintenance”. It was simply equipped and air-cooled by a fan. The vehicle was equipped with a 4-cylinder - petrol engine with standing equipped valves. With a displacement of 1540 cm³, the motor fed by an ascending flow carburetor developed an output of 10.8 kW (18 hp) at 2000 revolutions per minute. The consumption was around 12 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. A 3-speed gearbox was operated via a single-disc dry clutch . With a wheelbase of 2,800 mm, the vehicle was 4,250 mm long, 1,720 mm wide and 1,950 mm high.

From 1929 a revised version of the phenomenon 4RL was produced. The shape was changed and the brake system developed from a mechanical rear wheel brake to a mechanical 4-wheel service brake.
