From 2001 to 2014, Widmer mainly took part in competitions of the Continental Cup . He had eight wins, six of them in the Nor-Am Cup and two in the US Super Tour . His best overall placement was eighth in the 2007/08 season at the Nor Am Cup. He completed his first of a total of 24 World Cup races in December 2005 in Vernon and finished 26th in the sprint and thus scored his first World Cup points. At the U23 World Championships in 2006 in Kranj he came in 53rd place over 15 km classic and 17th place in the sprint. In his only Olympic participation in February 2006 in Turin , he achieved 47th place in the sprint. The following year he succeeded in the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo, 63rd place in the sprint. In January 2008 he reached in Canmore with the 13th place in the sprint his best individual placement in the World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec , he finished 30th in the sprint. In February 2013 he won the 49th place in the sprint at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme .
