The Philharmonie Festiva is a festival orchestra that was founded by the conductor Gerd Schaller and which has achieved international recognition, especially through his Bruckner recordings.

The musicians of the Philharmonie Festiva, founded in 2008, come from renowned orchestras in Germany and neighboring countries. According to Gerd Schaller, the orchestra is “not a short-term active project orchestra, but the intention was precisely to build up and develop a top-class ensemble in the long term, a festival orchestra, so that the Ebracher Musiksommers could carry out its own demanding projects follow; definitely also with somewhat elitist aspirations. "

One focus of the orchestra are the concerts and recordings of Anton Bruckner's symphonies . In the meantime, 20 CDs with works by Bruckner have already been released, which have received international attention.

Ralph Moore reviews the recording of the 3rd symphony in the music magazine MusicWeb International: “I have already referred to the extraordinary nature of the Philharmonie Festiva, [...] whose golden sonority pervades the score with noblesse. The singing periods are tender and lyrical, and the tutti is weighty, underpinned by magnificent brass [...] "

Brian Reinhard also stated on MusicWeb International regarding the recording of the 6th Symphony: “I'm not exactly sure what the Philharmonie Festiva is, but it is really excellent and produces a fuller, richer Bruckner sound [...]. She faces every challenge. [...] Gerd Schaller's Sixth is outstanding, one of the best recordings of this symphony in years. Not exactly what you'd expect, is it? At least I don't. "

Regarding the recording of Anton Bruckner's F minor Mass, Christian Hoskins remarks at Gramophone: “[...] Gerd Schaller's performance is an exception and forms an excellent counterpart to his recently completed cycle of symphonies. [...] The recording is as excellent as the performance. "

Bruckner's 9th Symphony was recorded three times by the Philharmonie Festiva under the direction of Gerd Schaller: in 2010 with the final movement by William Carragan, in 2016 with the completion by Gerd Schaller himself and in 2018 in Schaller's revised version.

The CD recordings of the Philharmonie Festiva were mainly made in the abbey church of the former Cistercian monastery in Ebrach and in the Max Littmann Hall of the Regentenbau in Bad Kissingen . They are part of the long-term planned Bruckner cycle as part of the Ebrach Music Summer . The CD recordings were supported by a cooperation with the  Bayerischer Rundfunk - Studio Franken and broadcast on the radio on BR-Klassik. All recordings were published by the Profil Edition Günter Hänssler label.

In addition to the standard repertoire with an emphasis on the works of Bruckner, the orchestra also rare musical works and rediscoveries dedicated ( Carl Goldmark : Symphony No. 1;  Franz Schubert : Unfinished - "completed" in the four-movement version of William Carragan) and the Requiem  by  Franz von Suppè  and the Great Mass by  Johann Ritter von Herbeck , which were recorded together with the Munich Philharmonic Choir . The American magazine Forbes has named the co-production of Bayerischer Rundfunk - Studio Franken with the label Edition Günter Hänssler of the Great Mass in E minor by Johann Ritter von Herbeck as one of the ten best new CD releases of 2015.

Already with its first project, the world premiere  recording of the opera  Merlin by Carl Goldmark, the orchestra attracted attention by being awarded an ECHO Klassik Musikpreis in 2010  for the “Opera Recording of the Year (19th Century)”.
