Philip Yancey

Philip Yancey (born 1949 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American journalist , editor , best-selling author and publisher of Christianity Today , a major evangelical newspaper in the United States.

Life

Yancey grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta. When he was one year old, his father died of polio. After high school, he attended Columbia Bible College . He received his degrees in communications and English from Wheaton College Graduate School and the University of Chicago .

1971–1979 he worked in Chicago as an editor for Campus Life Magazine . He then became editor of the evangelical newspaper Christianity Today . He has also written articles for Reader's Digest , The Saturday Evening Post , Publishers Weekly , Chicago Tribune Magazine , Eternity , Moody Monthly , National Wildlife, and other magazines. From 1985-2009 he had a column on Christianity Today . He was also active in managerial and strategic positions in publishing and lectures worldwide.

Private

Yancey is also an avid mountaineer, having climbed all 54 Colorado peaks that are higher than 14,000 feet (4,300 m) in the same year, despite a car accident in 2007 .

He is married to Janet and they live in Colorado.

Yancey has written hundreds of articles and over 20 books for publishers Zondervan and Hachette. His books have been sold over 14 million times worldwide, making him one of the best-selling authors. Two of his books were also recognized by ECPA ( Christian Book of the Year Award ): 1996 The Jesus I never knew and 1998 What's so amazing about grace?
