Philipp-Sebastian Kühn
Philipp-Sebastian Kühn (born August 4, 1977 in Plau am See ) is a German SPD politician . From 2008 to 2015 he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament .
Life and work
Philipp-Sebastian Kühn grew up in Plau am See in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and graduated from high school in 1996. The move to Hamburg and his military service in Hamburg-Fischbek followed. Here he completed a two-year training as a reserve officer and was deployed in 1997 during the devastating flood of the Oder. After his service, Kühn was promoted to lieutenant in the reserve in 1999. He then worked for the then SPD parliamentary group leader, Holger Christier . In 2006 he completed his studies in social and economic history, political science and modern history. Kühn lives with his partner, the science journalist (GEOkompakt) and photographer, Rainer Michael Harf, in Hamburg.
His father, Manfred Rudolf Kühn (born March 10, 1949 in Osterburg), was active in the GDR opposition movement and from January 25, 1990 to September 28, 1990 a member of the party executive of the Eastern SPD and ran for the People's Chamber in March 1990. In 1995 Kühn founded his own company for industrial refrigeration plant construction. The family comes from Eichendorf (30 km northeast of Breslau) and fled to Altmark in 1944/45.
His mother, Ute Maria Kühn (née Merten, born August 13, 1951 in Plau am See) is a teacher and has been chairwoman of the SPD local association in Plau am See since 1998. The Merten family originally came from Hungary and immigrated to the Oderbruch in the 1740s under the Prussian King Friedrich II. In the village of Zechin (20 km north-east of Seelow) they established an approximately 250 hectare farm.
Kühn became a member of the Hamburger Wingolf student union in 1996, from which he later left. Kühn lives openly gay in Hamburg.

Philipp-Sebastian Kühn joined the SPD in 1994. At that time he was also involved in the establishment of the Jusos (youth organization of the SPD) in Parchim . From 2003 to 2007 he was state chairman of the Jusos in Hamburg. During his term of office the political reorientation of the Young Socialists fell from the left to the right wing of the party. He was one of the most important representatives of the conservative-pragmatic current at the federal level and is also one of the closest companions of the Bundestag member and spokesman for the Seeheim district, Johannes Kahrs. Kühn was active in various committees of the district assembly Hamburg-Mitte , in the local committee Billstedt - Horn and from 2008 to 2011 chairman of the regional committee Billstedt.
In February 2008, he was in the state election next Metin Hakverdi as the second SPD candidate in the constituency Billstedt-Wilhelmsburg-Finkenwerder on the constituency list as an MP to move into the citizenship and was in the 19th legislative term member of the Science and input Committee of citizenship.
In the general election on February 20, 2011 , he moved through his constituency, where he achieved the best result of all constituency candidates with 37,672 of the votes, again as a member of the 20th electoral term . Kühn was a member of the science and interior committee of the citizenship and spokesman for the SPD citizenship parliamentary group for science and research as well as a spokesman for the field of lesbian, gay and transgender people.
In the 2015 state elections, Kühn ran for 59th place on the SPD state list, but did not receive a mandate.
