Philipp David Herbs
Philipp David Kräuter (born August 14, 1690 in Augsburg ; † October 11, 1741 ibid) was a German composer , organist and music director in Augsburg.
Life
Kräuter, son of a soldier, attended high school near St. Anna in his hometown . From April 1712 to the end of September 1713 he was a student of Johann Sebastian Bach in Weimar . Back in Augsburg, he was appointed cantor to St. Anna in early December 1713, succeeding Daniel Merck (1650–1713).
Kräuter introduced the church cantata in Augsburg and in 1718 with a memorandum to improve the church singing. From 1720 he worked as music director in his hometown. With the establishment of a Collegium musicum , the establishment of public concerts and the intensive maintenance of oratorio performances, he also made a contribution to the bourgeois musical life.
