Philipp Grütering (2015)

Philipp Maria Grütering (born June 26, 1974 in Hamburg-Bergedorf ) is a German rapper , MC and singer . He joined the group shortly after Deichkind was founded. For several years he has also been called "Kryptik Joe" .

biography

Grütering was born in Hamburg-Bergedorf and grew up there as a “typical child of the middle class”, as he himself stated in an interview with Die Welt . He attended Catholic elementary school and started recording music at the age of 14 or 15, his inspiration at that point being David Bowie . At the age of 16 he met the producer Andreas Herbig through his sister, who produced for Udo Lindenberg , among others . The latter gave him a drum machine and recommended that he make music with it. Herbig later offered to rap on an advertisement he had produced. Gruetering accepted the offer. In an interview with Zeit magazine, he referred to Herbig as his mentor, and he also recognized that “making music as a job works”.

Since Grütering was not sure at a young age whether he seriously wanted to pursue a career in music, he studied law and chemistry in Hamburg and also worked in a pizzeria, pharmacy, pubs and bars and also worked as a DJ .

Because he got a record deal with Deichkind and was already touring with his band, he dropped out of studies after the fourth semester and finally decided on a music career. Since 2008 he is the only remaining founding member of the band.

Private life

Grütering is married to the blogger Isa Grütering, has three children and now lives in Berlin-Pankow .
