Philipp Holl

Philipp Holl (born August 15, 1879 in Hömberg (near Nassau), † December 6, 1967 in Wiesbaden ) was trade union secretary and mayor of Wiesbaden.

After attending the primary schools in Hömberg and Wiesbaden, Holl completed an apprenticeship as a painter and varnisher from 1893–1896 and was then - interrupted by military service - journeyman at various companies. In 1904 he took over the position of the secretary of the Association of Painters, Varnishers, Tüncher etc. for Wiesbaden and the surrounding area, which he held until 1921. At the First World War Holl took as a medic in part, since November 1915 he headed the welfare office for disabled veterans of the Red Cross in Wiesbaden and then served until 1930 as head of the now urban welfare office for disabled veterans and -hinterbliebene, most recently as managing bailiff. After he had already been volunteering for the SPD in Wiesbaden's magistrate since 1919 , he was appointed a paid city ​​councilor in 1930, dismissed as such on March 9, 1933 on the basis of the law to restore the civil service and returned to office on April 21, 1945 appointed after he had meanwhile been imprisoned under the National Socialists in 1944. From July 24, 1945 to July 13, 1948, Philipp Holl was the first alderman ( mayor ) of Wiesbaden.
