Philip II of Waldeck-Eisenberg (born March 3, 1453 - † October 26, 1524 at Sparrenburg ( Bielefeld )) was Count of Waldeck - Eisenberg . His parents were Wolrad I. von Waldeck and Barbara von Wertheim (* 1422).

Originally, Philip was destined to be a priest as a younger son, but after the death of his brother Philip I of the same name in 1475 for dynastic reasons, he left the clergy and ruled the county of Waldeck zu Waldeck as the guardian of his nephew Henry VIII , who was still a minor . In 1486 he divided the county with his nephew: Philip II became Count of Waldeck-Eisenberg, Henry VIII received Waldeck-Wildungen. This created two more lines in the Waldeck house : the older Eisenberger and the older Wildunger line.

In 1487 Philipp founded the Franciscan monastery in Korbach together with Heinrich VIII. Von Waldeck-Wildungen and Otto IV. Von Waldeck-Landau ; the monks belonged to the Cologne Order Province and followed the rules of the observants .

In 1499 a very rich gold vein was discovered in Eisenberg, and after that there was a three-year dispute between Waldeck and the Lords of Viermund over mining on the Eisenberg.

In 1505, Duke Wilhelm IV of Jülich-Berg allowed Philipp to build mines as his governor in the offices of Ravensberg and Sparrenberg . In addition to himself, two ducal officials and wealthy Bielefeld citizens, including the two mayors, took part in the first mining company . There was also a mining expert from Thuringia.

In 1507 he was the owner of the Steffenburg, built by Curd von Ense in Adorf at the beginning of the 16th century and now sold .

Philipp was an ally of the Archbishop of Mainz , Albrecht . That is why he was captured by Götz von Berlichingen , who was staying in Padberg , in March 1516 and released again after a long time for a ransom of 8,900 ducats .

Marriage and children

On November 3, 1478 he married Katharina zu Solms-Lich († 1492), daughter of Kuno zu Solms-Lich and Walpurgis von Dhaun († December 12, 1492 or 1493), with whom he had the following children:

Around 1497 he married Katharina von Querfurt († 1521 in Kelbra ), the widow of Günther XXXVIII. from Schwarzburg-Blankenburg .
