Philipp Müller (theologian, 1960)

Philipp Müller (* 1960 in Düren ) is a German Catholic theologian and professor of pastoral theology at the University of Mainz .

Life

Philipp Müller grew up in Nideggen (Düren district). After graduating from the Stiftisches Gymnasium in Düren and the Bundeswehr, he studied Catholic theology and history in Freiburg im Breisgau. He completed both subjects with a diploma or state examination. In May 1991 he was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Freiburg in the Freiburg Minster . After a chaplain in Karlsruhe, he was a research assistant at the Institute of Pastoral Theology of Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg , where he was in 1997 with a thesis on the pastoral understanding of the Freiburg pastoral theologians Linus Bopp (1887-1971) Dr. theol. PhD; the theological faculty Freiburg i. Br. Rated this work "summa cum laude" and awarded it the Bernhard Welte Prize. From 1999 to 2006 Müller Regens was in the seminary of the Archdiocese of Freiburg in St. Peter (Black Forest). At the same time he wrote a habilitation thesis on the topic "Sermon is testimony. The foundation of homiletics", on the basis of which the theological faculty Freiburg i. Br. Awarded the venia legendi for pastoral theology and homiletics in December 2006 . From 2008 to 2011 Müller worked as a pastoral theologian at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Mainz . In October 2011 he was appointed professor for pastoral theology at the University of Mainz.

Müller's main research areas are pastoral teaching, evangelizing pastoral care, the history of pastoral care and pastoral theology, vocational pastoral care and Christian spirituality.

Müller is an advisor to Commission IV of the German Bishops' Conference "Spiritual Professions and Church Services". In 2014 he was awarded the Johannes Gutenberg University teaching award for high quality teaching.
