Philipp Mainzer

Philipp Mainzer (born October 23, 1969 in Mainz ) is a German architect and product designer . He is a member of the Presidium of the German Design Council .

Life

Mainzer studied product design in London at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and architecture at the Architectural Association . In 1995 he founded the furniture brand e15 together with Florian Asche , whom he met during his studies. Named after the zip code of the East London district of Hackney, where Mainzer's first studio was located, the company was best known for the Bigfoot solid wood table and the Backenzahn stool . Both pieces of furniture have now become design classics.

In 2017, Philipp Mainzer made his debut for the first time outside of his role at e15 with the jorel storage system for Interlübke GmbH as part of the imm cologne . jorel was awarded the Interior Innovation Award 2017 and the German Design Award 2018 and thus joins the list of Mainzer's furniture designs that have been honored with national and international design prizes. In 2016, Philipp Mainzer and Farah Ebrahimi, Art Director at e15, received honorary membership of the German Designer Club .

At the same time as he founded e15, he practiced architecture in New York and continued to do so after his return to Germany in 2001. From 2004 to 2016 he developed the shop fitting for the Hamburg fashion label Closed , u. a. of the fashion label's Paris flagship store, which opened in 2013 . Mainzer's architectural office is now realizing commercial, residential and cultural projects around the world and was responsible for building a distillery for the Monkey 47 dry gin brand and the Frankfurt signature store for the Australian cosmetics company Aesop.

Today Philipp Mainzer is creative director and managing director of the Philipp Mainzer Office for Architecture and Design as well as of e15 Design und Distributions GmbH. He has been a member of the Presidium of the German Design Council since 2009 and gives lectures on architecture, design and branding.

Cooperations

Mainz sells furniture by renowned designers under the e15 brand. Works by Stefan Diez and Arik Levy are included in the collection. In 2012, twelve pieces of Ferdinand Kramer's furniture were reissued and have been distributed ever since. In 2015, e15 presented a product family in collaboration with the British architect David Chipperfield .
