Philipp Seibert

Philipp Seibert (born March 20, 1915 in Gimbsheim ; † November 20, 1987 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending primary school, Seibert completed a commercial training from 1929 to 1932 and at the same time went to a commercial vocational school. He then worked as a technical businessman. From 1939 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier .

Seibert had worked for the Southwest German Railways Association since 1945 . He joined the union and was first chairman of the Union of Railway Workers in Germany (GdED) from 1959 to 1979 . During his term of office, for example, he fought against the "length of service rule", which allowed excessively long weekly working hours of up to 90 hours. He also acted as an executive member of the International Transport Federation based in London , as President of the Transport Commission of the European Transport Trade Unions (EEC) based in Brussels and as Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the German Federal Railroad .

Political party

Seibert had been a member of the SPD since 1945.

Seibert was a council member of the city ​​of Langen . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1961 to 1976. He was always drawn into parliament via the Bavarian state list.
