Philipp Wessel

Paul Philipp Friedrich Wessel (born January 20, 1826 in Kulm ; † June 20, 1855 in Bonn ) was a German fraternity , geographer and paleobotanist . Its botanical author's abbreviation is " P.Wessel ".

Life

Philipp Wessel studied at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn and was part of the "banquet affair" from February 25, 1849 due to call at a procession followed by banquet in Bonn city center, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the revolutionary events in France from expelled from the university. He was an active fraternity member and initially a member of the Frankonia fraternity in Bonn , before he founded the "Normannia" fraternity on March 9, 1849 with Ludwig Meyer .

Philipp Wessel was after his return in 1851 when Jacob Noeggerath to Dr. phil. PhD and habilitation then for Physical and Physical Geography . However, he was now suffering from a lung disease that weakened him very much and forced him to spend the winter of 1853 in Merano to relax. In the summer of 1854 he and his friend and attending physician Karl Otto Weber began working on the tertiary flora of the lignite formation on the Lower Rhine.

As a result of this processing, Philipp Wessel is the first to describe numerous fossil plants from lignite. The font was completed by Karl Otto Weber and published six months after his death with Philipp Wessel as first author under the title “New Contribution to the Tertiary Flora of the Lower Rhine Lignite Formation”.
