Philipp Wilhelm Daubert (born June 1, 1799 in Braunschweig ; † November 21, 1875 there ) was a German canning company. The company he founded formed the nucleus of the Braunschweig canning industry .

life and work

The son of the Braunschweig master tailor Johann Christian Daubert and his wife Johanna Dorothee, b. Hofmeister became a master plumber in his hometown. At the suggestion of the chemist Franz Varrentrapp , Daubert began around 1850 to preserve Brunswick asparagus and other vegetables in hand-made tin cans based on the model of the French Nicolas Appert (1749–1841), now known as canning or preserving . After this was initially only done for family and friends, a processing plant was established at Bohlweg 9 in 1852 after the asparagus crops were planted in the Braunschweig area, where external workers were also employed. Since the 1859 Daubert was Partikulier and the company was expanded by his son, the master plumber Carl Heinrich Daubert (1830-1919) under the name "CH Daubert successor" to a nationally known company that its products after the introduction of the autoclave in 1873 could also sell as far as England, France and Italy. Under the brand name “Daubertus” mostly canned asparagus as well as canned vegetables and fruit were produced. The company moved to Marstall 3 in 1864. After the company's founder died in 1875, the company moved to Wiesenstrasse 1 in 1922. The factory there was rebuilt in 1947 after being destroyed in the war. In 1959, the offer comprised 250 items. The company went out in 1974/75.

Daubert had been married to Henriette Antoinette Wilhelmine, a daughter of the nursery owner Dreves, since 1827. The couple had three sons and a daughter.
