Philipp Zepnik (born December 7, 1988 ) is a German ski racer whose strongest disciplines are the Super-G and the downhill . He has won two German championship titles so far and competed in the World Cup for the first time in 2012 .

biography

Zepnik started skiing as a five-year-old in the ski club of his home town in halhlch . After positions in the regional team in Ostallgäu and in the Allgäu school team, he was finally accepted into the team of the German Ski Association (DSV). He attended the Gertrud-von-le-Fort-Gymnasium in Oberstdorf , where he passed his Abitur in 2008 . In October of the same year he was accepted into the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr .

After reaching the age limit, Zepnik first took part in FIS races in winter 2003/2004 . In March 2006 he achieved his first top 10 placements in these races. At the end of January / beginning of February 2007, Zepnik took second place in his age group at the German youth championships in downhill and super-G. This was followed by the first appearances in the European Cup and participation in the 2007 Junior World Championships in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee and Flachau . His only result at the Junior World Championship was a 33rd place in the Super-G, in the other three competitions he did not finish. On January 10, 2009, Zepnik suffered tears in the anterior cruciate ligament and the inner ligament in a fall on the Wengen European Cup run , after which he had to pause for around six months. The following winter he achieved his greatest success to date at national level by winning the German championship title in the Super-G 2010.

In the 2010/2011 season, Zepnik was able to score points in the European Cup for the first time. The year before he had already won his first points in the North American racing series Nor-Am Cup . In the next winter of 2011/2012 the first top 10 place in the European Cup and the first podium in the Nor-Am Cup followed. In mid-December 2012, Zepnik was used for the first time in the World Cup in Super-G and Downhill from Val Gardena . In the downhill he won his first World Cup points with 21st place.
