Philippe Camus

Philippe Camus (born June 28, 1948 in Paris ) is a French businessman. From 2000 to 2005 he was Co- CEO at EADS . Since October 1st, 2008 he has been the Non-Executive Chairman of Alcatel-Lucent . On September 1, 2015, he was also appointed interim CEO , making him the last CEO of Alcatel-Lucent before the merger with Nokia .

biography

From 1967 to 1971 Philippe Camus studied economics and finance at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and physics at the École normal supérieure in Paris . In 1972 Camus started working in the finance department of Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations as a financial analyst and portfolio manager. After his success here, he was appointed Head of the Fixed Income Directorate in 1976. During his leadership, Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations was able to significantly increase operating profit in the bond market, which is why he is credited with modernizing the French bond market. In 1980 he got a doctorate in actuarial science.

In 1982 Camus joined the Lagardère Group , where he was appointed Chairman of the Board in 1993. Since 1998 he has been 'co-managing partner' of the Lagardère Group.

From 1987 to 1993 he was also chairman of the board of directors of Banque Arjil .

From 1996 to 2001 he was a member of the Conseil des Marchés Financiers of the French financial regulator .

The Lagardère Group owned the world's largest magazine publisher at the time, Hachette Filipacchi Medias , which in turn owned 15% of EADS. Jean-Luc Lagardère's son , Arnaud Lagardère , ran the Lagardère Group's media division, while Camus ran the defense and automotive companies. The Matra Hautes Technologies , the defense contractor of the Lagardère Group merged under the personal guidance of Camus in 1999 with the state-owned Aerospatiale of Aérospatiale-Matra , which was the first privatization of an aircraft manufacturer in France. In the same year, the first established Aérospatiale Matra Group became part of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company ( EADS ), which was a conglomerate of DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (DASA), Aérospatiale Matra Group, and Construcciones Aeronauticas SA (CASA).

In 2001 Camus became the head of the Institut d'Expertise et de Prospective (Institute for Future Research) at the École normal supérieure and at the same time President of the Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales (GIFAS), the French aerospace industry association.

In addition to this activity, he was and is a member or chairman of the supervisory boards of Hachette SA , Hachette Distribution Services , Dassault Aviation , Lagardère Active Broadcast , Hachette Filipacchi Médias , La Provence , Nice-Matin and Editions P. Amaury . Camus is also a member of various Airbus and Aero Ré working groups .
