Paul Peter Rhode

Paul Peter Rhode (born September 18, 1871 in Neustadt in West Prussia , † March 3, 1945 in Green Bay , Wisconsin ) was the sixth Catholic bishop of Green Bay .

In 1881, Rhode emigrated to Chicago in the United States with his mother . He received his education at St. Mary's College in Kentucky , St. Ignatius College in Chicago, and St. Francis Seminary near Milwaukee . On June 17, 1894, Rohde was ordained a priest by Archbishop Patrick Augustine Feehan and then worked in various parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago .

Pope Pius X appointed Rohde on May 27, 1908, auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Chicago and titular bishop of Barca ; he received the episcopal ordination on July 29, 1908 by Archbishop James Edward Quigley . Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Peter James Muldoon from Chicago and Joseph Maria Koudelka from Cleveland .

Seven years later, on July 15, 1915, Pope Benedict XV appointed him bishop of Green Bay. Rohde held this office until his death. During his tenure, he set up ten new parishes , reorganized the Diocesan Caritas and created his own education department in his diocese.
