Philippe Narmino

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philippe Narmino (born December 16, 1953 in Monaco ) was Head of the Directorate of Judicial Services (judicial authorities) of the Principality of Monaco from 2006 to 2017 . In the wake of a corruption affair involving Russian oligarch Dmitri Rybolovlev , it was revealed that he and senior Monegasque police officers were accepting gifts from Rybolovlev. Narmino then made his office available in September 2017.

In January 2006, Narmino was appointed Director of Judicial Services ( Director of Justice) and President of the State Council of Monaco . This made him the first native Monegasque citizen to take on these tasks. Before that, they were noticed by native French people.

Narmino did not have the official title of Minister of Justice , as there is no actual Ministry of Justice in Monaco , but the directorate of the judicial services (the judicial authorities). This office is similar to that of a Justice Minister . Judicial power, however, is subject to the sovereign prince, who delegates the full exercise to the courts of justice.

On July 1, 2011, he performed the civil wedding of Prince Albert II and Charlene Wittstock in the throne room of the Princely Palace of Monaco , exceptionally in a role as registrar . He had also married the Prince's sister, Princess Caroline , to Stefano Casiraghi in 1983 and, after his death in 1999, to Ernst August von Hannover .

In the wake of the corruption affair between those responsible for the Monegasque police and judiciary and the Russian oligarch Dmitri Rybolovlew , Narmino resigned his position as head of the principality's judiciary in September 2017. The prince accepted the resignation. Narmino is also no longer a member of the State Council. On November 6, 2018, Rybolovlev was arrested in Monaco on charges of corruption in connection with this affair . More on this in the Yves Bouvier affair section .

Among other awards, His Excellency Philippe Narmino is Commander of the Monegasque Order of Saint Charles .

He is also honorary president (or general secretary ) of the Monegasque Red Cross .

Narmino is married to his wife Christine and has two children.
