Philip II of Alençon ( French Philippe d'Alençon ; * 1338 or 1339 ; † August 16, 1397 in Rome ) was a French cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Philip II of Alençon was born in 1338 or 1339 as the second son of Charles II of Alençon , the brother of King Philip VI. of France , and María de la Cerda, daughter of Ferdinand II. de la Cerda . In 1356 he was appointed Bishop of Beauvais , in 1359 Archbishop of Rouen and in 1375 Patriarch of Jerusalem . Pope Urban VI created it on September 18, 1378 . to the cardinal.

His appointment as Patriarch of Aquileia in 1381 caused unrest in Friuli , so that he was in 1388 by Pope Boniface IX. was removed from office and appointed Bishop of Ostia .

Philip died in Rome on August 16, 1397. He was buried in his titular church, Santa Maria in Trastevere .
