Phosphorus (III) nitride is an inorganic chemical compound of phosphorus from the group of nitrides . The monomeric form only exists at higher temperatures. The polymeric form probably consists of long chains, the spatial orientations of which differ widely.

Extraction and presentation

Phosphorus (V) nitride decomposes from 800 ° C to phosphorus (III) nitride and nitrogen .

Occurrence

PN was identified in interstellar space by its rotation spectrum.

properties

Monomeric phosphorus (III) nitride is metastable with respect to disproportionation in P 2 and N 2 :

At lower temperatures PN forms colorless polymers . Yellow to brown polymers with an excess of nitrogen are also known, the stoichiometry of which is between PN and P 3 N 5 .

The bond distance in the molecule is 149.1 pm and corresponds to the calculated value for a triple bond (150 pm).
