Physalis hederifolia is a plant type from the genus of jujubes ( Physalis ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Physalis hederifolia is a perennial , herbaceous plant that can reach a height of 10 to 50 cm. It is hairy with different long and articulated as well as short trichomes or exclusively with short trichomes, the hairiness can be sticky, glandular or neither. Occasionally, star-shaped trichomes appear in places. The leaf blades of the leaves are almost kidney-shaped to ovate, rarely ovate-lanceolate. The leaf margin is coarse and irregularly protruding serrated to slightly lobed to wavy or entire. The larger leaves are 20 to 50 (rarely up to 80) mm long and 15 to 40 (rarely up to 60) mm wide. The leaf stalks are 10 to 45 mm long.

The flowers are on peduncles with a length of 2 to 7 (rarely up to 15) mm. At flowering time the calyx is 5 to 9 mm long and at the base of the calyx lobes 4 to 6 mm wide. The calyx lobes are 2 to 4 mm long and triangular to lanceolate in shape. The crown is conspicuous to indistinctly spotted, 7 to 10 mm long and 10 to 17 mm wide. The coronet is bent back when the flower is fully open. The anthers are mostly yellow, occasionally tinged with purple and 2 to 4 mm long. They stand on slightly thickened stamens that reach a length of 1 to 5 mm.

The fruit is a 9 to 15 mm wide berry . It is surrounded by an enlarging calyx, which is 12 to 25 mm long and 9 to 17 mm wide on the ripe fruit and has a ten-angled or ten-ribbed cross-section. The hairiness of the calyx can vary, the stems enlarge to 5 to 10 mm on the fruit.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24 or 48.
