Physical-technical assistant
Physical-technical assistant (PhyTA or Phy-TA) is a training occupation in Germany. They support physicists and engineers in carrying out and evaluating physical-technical investigations.
education
Physical-technical assistants must be able to work on a wide range of tasks due to the wide physical-technical spectrum. They learn this in theoretical lessons, supplemented by practical exercises and an internship .
Theoretical lessons
In theoretical lessons , the prospective PhyTAs receive subject-specific lessons in subjects such as B. Physics , electrical engineering and electronics , measurement and control technology , general and physical chemistry , mathematics and computer science .
There are also lessons in general subjects such as B. German , English , economics and social studies . Sport is not taught.
Practical lessons
Practical exercises accompany the lessons. This takes place in the form of practical subjects, which are based on the corresponding theoretical subjects. Here emphasis is placed on independent work.
internship
In a company internship , the knowledge acquired in class is deepened and applied so that initial work experience can be gained during the training. This internship is not absolutely necessary to qualify as a physical-technical assistant. However, this is required (at least 6 months) at most vocational schools in order to obtain the technical college entrance qualification.
Type and duration
The training to become a physical-technical assistant is a state-regulated school training at vocational schools and vocational colleges . It usually lasts two years. At some schools, the advanced technical college entrance qualification can be acquired with a duration of 2.5 to 3 years . One-year courses based on the Abitur are also possible.
graduation
After passing the final exam , you are entitled to use the title of state-certified technical assistant for physics .
activity
Physical-technical assistants assist physicists and engineers in scientific and industrial laboratories in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of physical-technical investigations. They are also involved in the development of new methods and physical devices.
Areas of responsibility
Important areas are measurement , control , electrical and materials technology . But also other areas such as B. Biology , medicine and environmental protection can be considered.
Possible uses
Physical-technical assistants often work in companies in which process and control technologies are used or developed. For example in the production of measuring and electronic devices, the manufacture of electric motors and switching devices, in the chemical industry or information and communication technology.
There is often employment in research and development at universities , technical colleges and other research institutions and testing centers . There is a diverse range of activities in development offices or directly in the production facilities.
