The salvage ships of Piast - class (Project 570) were asked from 1974 to 1976 in service and for the Polish Navy and Uruguayan Navy deployed.

The ships were built at the Nord shipyard in Gdansk . The design is of the built at the same shipyard survey vessels of the Moma class derived (Project 861) and designed for the following tasks:

The equipment allows worldwide use and consists of fire monitors , external bilge systems , workshops , a ship's crane , a towing device , a decompression chamber and a detachable diving bell on the port side .

The Polish ships were extensively modernized between 1999 and 2001 and adapted to NATO standards.

  • ORP Piast (281)

The Piast entered service on January 26, 1974 and gave the class its name. During the modernization, the ship received a hydraulic ship crane, a modified anchor device and a helicopter working deck.

  • ORP Lech (282)

The Lech was put into service on November 30, 1974. The modernization is outwardly less noticeable.

  • ROU Vanguardia (26)

Hull number 3 of this class was built for the Volksmarine and put into service on December 29, 1976 as Otto von Guericke (A46). The ship was not taken over by the German Navy and sold to the Uruguayan Navy in October 1991. It was put back into service as Vanguardia on December 18, 1991 .
