The Piast Tower (Polish Wieża Piastowska , Czech Piastovská věž ) is located in Cieszyn (Teschen) in the powiat Cieszyński in the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . It was part of the Teschen Castle on the Góra Zamkowa above the Olsa .
history
The tower was built inside the castle in the 14th century by the Piast dukes of the Duchy of Teschen . In the 16th century both the tower and the castle were redesigned in the Renaissance style. The castle was damaged during the Thirty Years War and finally destroyed by Swedish troops in 1646. After 1659 large parts of the castle were demolished. The tower was preserved and was restored to its Gothic form in the 19th century. Today the 24-meter-high structure serves as a lookout tower, from which a panorama of the cities of Cieszyn and Český Těšín as well as the mountain ranges of the Silesian Beskids , Moravian-Silesian Beskids and the Silesian Foothills is offered.
use
The shape of the tower is used on logos associated with the Silesian Voivodeship - including the Cieszyn Castle Brewery and its Brackie beer brand , the Silesian Beskids Landscape Park , the Piast Cieszyn football club, and the Polish-Czech Euroregion Cieszyn Silesia .
