Pidhirzi (Ukrainian Підгірці ; Russian Подгорцы / Podgorzy , Polish Podhorce , German also Podhorze ) is a village in Lviv Oblast , Ukraine .

Castle in Pidhirtsi

It is located 24 km southwest of Brody in the direction of Lviv . The 399 m above sea level M. located place offers a wide view to the north into the Volhynian plain on the river Styr .

The village of Sahirzi (Загірці) also belongs to the district council of the same name .

5 km to the northwest is the town of Olesko with its castle, the birthplace of the Polish King John III. Sobieski .

The place became famous for the important Sanguszko Castle , which is surrounded by a large park ("Ukrainian Versailles"). During the First World War , the castle was temporarily the seat of the V Corps Command of the German Army.

Beyond the park sits the huge Sunna Palace Chapel, a kind of St. Peter's Basilica on the outskirts of Galicia.

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1076 and was in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania until 1772 , after that it belonged to Austrian Galicia until 1918 , came to Poland after the end of the First World War (in the Tarnopol Voivodeship , Powiat Złoczów, Gmina Podhorce), was occupied by the Soviet Union from September 1939 to summer 1941 , then by Germany until 1944 during World War II . Since 1944 it was part of the Ukrainian SSR and since 1991 it is part of today's Ukraine.
