Jan Piecko (born February 3, 1955 in Katowice ) is a former German - Polish ice hockey player . He was a left winger.

Career

His career originally began with his hometown club Baildon Katowice. With them he managed to become Polish runner-up three times in 1974, 1975 and 1976, before moving to Polonia Bytom in 1981 . There he spent his most successful time with two further runners-up championships (1983, 1985), a Polish championship (1984), and the title of best goalscorer (1984).

After 13 seasons in the first Polish league in which he made a total of 460 games and 367 goals (6th place in the all-time Polish goal scorer list), he left Poland to play for EV Ravensburg until the end of his career . There, the elegant skater and great technician became a legend. The decisive factor for this was not only his more than 700 goals in twelve years, but also his commitment to the club and the self-sacrificing game for the team. In 2001 Jan Piecko was voted athlete of the century in Ravensburg by the readers of the Schwäbische Zeitung

His number # 22 has not been awarded at EV Ravensburg since the end of his career.

Since the end of his career, Piecko has been the caretaker of a high school in Ravensburg.

International career

In his long career, the winger made a total of 100 international matches and 45 goals from 1973 to 1985. He took part in six world championships and the 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo .
