Pierantonio Pavanello (born May 20, 1955 in Bassano del Grappa , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Adria-Rovigo .

Life

Pierantonio Pavanello studied law at the University of Padua for two years before entering the seminary . He received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Vicenza on May 16, 1982 .

Until 1989 he was chaplain in Valdagno and then studied canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University , where he received his doctorate in 1993 . Subsequently he was lecturer in canon law at the Diocesan Seminary of Vicenza until his appointment as bishop. He taught the same subject from 1994 to 2001 at the San Antonio Dottore Institute in Padua and from 2004 as a professor at the Institute for Canon Law S. Pio X in Venice.

From 1994 to 2005 he was secretary of the priests and pastoral council of the Vicenza diocese. From 2001 until his appointment as bishop he was adjunct judicial vicar at the ecclesiastical court of the ecclesiastical region of Triveneto and since 2004 also chancellor of the diocesan curia. On October 27, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI. the honorary title of Papal Honorary Chaplain .

On December 23, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Adria-Rovigo. The episcopal ordination received his Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin on 20 February of the following year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Vicenza, Beniamino Pizziol , and his predecessor Lucio Soravito De Franceschi . The inauguration took place on March 6, 2016.

On July 29, 2019, the Pope appointed him a member of the Appeals Commission for serious criminal matters, the decision of which is reserved for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
