Pierre Berton (* 6. March 1842 in Paris ; † 24. October 1912 , civil Pierre François Samuel Montan) was a French actor , playwright and comedy writer .

Life

Pierre Berton grew up as the son of the novelist Julie Félicie Caroline Samson and the comedy poet Charles Francisque Berton (real name Charles-François Montan Berton). His grandfather was the composer Henri Montan Berton on his father's side and Joseph Isidore Samson on his mother's side , a member of the Comédie-Française .

Berton began his career as an actor in comic productions on the Parisian stages, with success at the Gymnase, the Odeon , the Théâtre-Français and in Vaudeville . In 1865 he made his debut as a playwright with the comic one-act play Les Jurons de Cadillac ; The comedy La Vertu de ma femme followed two years later . He continued his dual role as an author and performer in comic theater plays for the next thirty years. He stopped acting as an actor towards the end of the 20th century, but continued to write for the theater until his death.

From 1908 to 1909 his memoirs appeared in Le Figaro Littéraire ( Souvenirs de la vie de théâtre ), which were published as a book in 1913.
