Pierre Philippeaux

Pierre Philippeaux (born November 9, 1754 in Ferrières ( Département Oise ), † April 5, 1794 in Paris ) was a French lawyer and during the Revolution a member of the Sarthe Department in the National Convention .

He was first a lawyer, then a judge in the Mans district and at the beginning of the revolution founded the newspaper le Défenseur de la liberté , The Defender of Freedom . He voted for the death of King Louis XVI. and distinguished himself on the occasion of a business trip to the Département Vendée by his moderation. After his return to Paris, he attacked Generals Ronsin and Rossignol and their client Bouchotte in a pamphlet . His draft decree calling for an investigation into the behavior of the two generals was rejected by Barère , whereupon the Hébertists resolved to overthrow him at the first opportunity.

On 16 Germinal , he was with Danton and his followers, the Indulgenten , executed .
