Pierre Rousselot (born December 29, 1878 in Nantes , † April 25, 1915 at Éparges (fallen)) was a French Jesuit , philosopher and theologian .

Life

Rousselot entered the Society of Jesus in 1895 and studied philosophy and theology in Canterbury . In 1908 he was ordained a priest and received his doctorate in philosophy at the Sorbonne. From 1909 until he was drafted into military service during the First World War (1914) he was Professor of Dogmatics at the Institut Catholique in Paris . He fell at Éparges in 1915.

Philosophical-theological approach

Rousselot's philosophy and theology is based on Thomas Aquinas and, based on Maurice Blondel, determines the relationship between nature and grace . The revelatory act of God must be countered by a capacity for knowledge that Rousselot regards as supernaturally exalted. "The various" signs "in which the revelation appears open up access to the reality of revelation and make consent to the revelation appear justified and responsible. But this so-called recognition of credibility only occurs when revelation, that is, God's call to direct community, is approved. Knowledge of credibility and consent to belief thus form an inseparable unit; they are two different aspects of one and the same act, the act of faith. "

In the German-speaking area, Hans Urs von Balthasar and Karl Rahner von Rousselot in particular were influenced.
