Petrus Johannes "Piet" de Leeuw (born December 29, 1900 in Wormerveer , Netherlands ; † August 25, 1963 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch carom player in the disciplines of free game and cadre , but later also took part in one- binding and three- cushion championships .

Career

In 1923 de Leeuw won his first title with the Dutch Cadre 45/2 Championship in 3rd class. His first World Cup participation was in 1933 in Lille, France, in the free game where he finished seventh, behind Théo Moons . In January 1935 he finished 5th in The Hague at the Cadre-45/2-EM, ahead of Ernst Reicher (Austria), Constant Côte (France) and his compatriot Jan Dommering . In the same year he took part in two world championships, in March in Montpellier , France in 45/2 (6th place), behind Jan Sweering , but before Joaquín Domingo from Spain and Ernst Reicher and in June in Scheveningen in the Netherlands in Cadre 45 / 1 (8th place). Before the war he took part four times in various world championships in Montpellier, Antwerp (2 ×) and Luik (Belgium), each in seventh or eighth place. After the war-related general tournament break, de Leeuw was finally able to win the hoped-for title against Jean Marty from France at the first post-war Cadre 45/1 European Championship in Montpellier in 1947 . In the same year he was only defeated by his compatriot Piet van de Pol at the Cadre 71/2 European Championships in Amsterdam and became vice European champion. In 1948 he was able to repeat his previous year's triumph from Montpellier in Amsterdam and win his second European title in Cadre 45/1.

Of the 59 participations in various Dutch championships between 1927 and 1952, de Leeuw won a total of 34 podium places, including 12 gold medals.
