Pieter Claesz. Soutman
Pieter Claeszoon Soutman (* around 1580 in Haarlem ; † August 16, 1657 ibid) was a Dutch painter and engraver , also a draftsman and etcher, as well as a publisher .
Life
Soutmann trained with Peter Paul Rubens in Antwerp, after whose paintings and drawings he made a number of etchings ( Four Hunts , The Wonderful Fish Train , the Last Supper according to Leonardo da Vinci ), and whom he also helped with the execution of his pictures. He should from 1624 to 1628 as court painter to King Sigismund III. Wasa worked in Poland . From 1628 he was back in Haarlem, where he founded a workshop of engravers who, under his direction, engraved his own and other people's drawings, especially Rubens. Soutmann himself joined more Frans Hals in Haarlem , in whose way he painted several portraits and marksmen's pieces and executed decorative paintings in the Huis ten Bosch in The Hague . He died in Haarlem on August 16, 1657.
