Pieter Frederik van Os
Pieter Frederik van Os (born October 8, 1808 in Amsterdam , † March 31, 1892 in Haarlem ) was a Dutch landscape and animal painter.
Pieter Frederik van Os was a member of a Dutch family of artists. He was the son of the painter Pieter Gerardus van Os (1776–1839) and grandson of the painter Jan van Os (1744–1808),
He received painting lessons from his father. From 1823 he worked as a freelance landscape and animal painter, and also created lithographs. In 1826 he went on a study trip through Belgium with his friend James de Rijk . In 1827 and 1828 he visited the province of Gelderland and the city of Kleve on the German-Dutch border .
Pieter Frederik van Os lived in Hilversum from 1824 to 1830, in Amsterdam from 1830 to 1839 and from 1839 in Haarlem.
In 1846 he was elected a board member of the artists' society "Kunst zij ons Doel" (art is our goal) in Haarlem. In 1859 he was appointed a member of the Amsterdam Royal Academie van Beeldende Kunsten .
From 1854 Anton Mauve was one of his students .
