James de Rijk

James de Rijk (born May 17, 1806 in Hilversum ; † November 10, 1882 there ) was a Dutch landscape and animal painter.

James de Rijk was a student of Jan van Ravenswaay . In 1826 he went on a study trip through Belgium and the county of Bentheim with his friend Pieter Frederik van Os . In 1828 he was appointed a member of the Amsterdam Royal Academie van Beeldende Kunsten . From 1838 he was a member of the United Drawing Societies "Door tot Hooger" and "Arti Sacrum" in Rotterdam.

He mostly painted landscapes with cows and horses. In addition, he dealt with drawing and lithography . His students included u. a. Cornelis Bijlard (1813–1855), Helmert Richard van der Flier (1827–1899), Hendrik Jan Hein (1822–1866), Lion Schulman (1851–1943) and Ferdinand Hendrik Sijpkens (1813–1860).
