Pietje Bell and the secret of the black hand is a Dutch youth film directed by Maria Peters from 2002 . It is based on the Pietje Bell books by Chris van Abkoude .

Rotterdam in the 1930s: eight-year-old Pietje Bell is the cheekiest boy in town, but he has a good heart. He even has his own series of stories with him as the title hero in the newspaper. Together with his friends he founds a youth gang, "The Black Hand", and distributes his stolen loot among the needy. But then he learns a plan of theft and prevents it. In the end, he is celebrated as the hero of the city.

With Krümelchen , director and screenwriter Maria Peters had already filmed a children's book by the Dutch author Chris van Abkoude before she devoted herself to something like a folk myth of the advanced book character Pietje Bell with this film by van Abkoudes in Holland. The film was released in German cinemas on January 19, 2006.

The film service praised the "lavishly staged film adaptation of a classic Dutch children's book" with great attention to detail, which "offers friendly family entertainment beyond all the fashionable frills."
