Pietro de Saliba , called Pietro da Messina , was an Italian painter . His work can be proven from 1497 to 1530 .

life and work

Brother of Antonello de Saliba and nephew of Antonello da Messina . After brief stays in Messina and Genoa , he was mainly active in Venice . He certainly learned his trade from his uncle, but was also influenced by Giovanni Bellini and Cima da Conegliano . Pietro de Saliba mainly painted half-length pictures in which he strictly adhered to the guidelines of Antonello da Messina, which he did not even come close to. Few of his works are known.
