Pigmy Love Circus is a rock band from Los Angeles , California , United States .

Band history

Pigmy Love Circus was founded in 1987 by Shepherd Stevenson ( bass ), Mike Savage ( vocals ), Anthony Martinez ( drums ), Rand Walters ( guitar ) and Peter Fletcher (guitar).

Originally they were known for their lively concerts and their style of music with influences from California punk rock (e.g. Fear , Black Flag ) and hard rock of the 1970s (e.g. Thin Lizzy , AC / DC , The Sensational Alex Harvey Band ) .

On June 12, 1990, Live (at Raji's June 12) was released , the debut album recorded live . In 1992 the mini album Drink Free Forever was released with 8 tracks. In 1992 the album When Clowns Become Kings was released with 12 tracks. Five songs from the mini-album "Drink Free Forever" were used as bonus tracks .

In 1992, drummer Danny Carey replaced Anthony Martinez, but left the band after a short time to join the progressive rock band Tool .

After the band split up in 1995, Danny Carey re-established them in 1999, albeit without guitarist Rand Walters. In 2003 the last album The Power of Beef was released with Danny Carey on drums.

Peter Fletcher reactivated in 2009 together with Nate and Kip Winger their band Blackwood Creek, founded in 1969, and recorded an album with them.

There are often several years between releases, in large part because Tool is Danny Carey's main band. Pigmy Love Circus appeared as the opening act for A Perfect Circle , Tools singer Maynard James Keenan's side project .

The lyrics of the songs can mostly be traced back to mystical themes and ancient philosophy .

The band is currently working on their fifth album.
