Maria del Pilar Eulalia Antonia Isabella Ludovika Franziska Josepha Rita Euphrasia von Wittelsbach, Princess of Bavaria (born March 13, 1891 at Nymphenburg Palace , Munich ; † January 29, 1987 ibid), was a German princess and painter.

Princess Pilar of Bavaria was the only daughter of Prince Ludwig Ferdinand of Bavaria and his Spanish wife María de la Paz of Spain .

Life

She studied art history, painting and graphics. She received her training as a painter from Hans von Bartels , Willi Geiger , Moritz Heymann and Viktoria Zimmermann. It was shaped by Claude Monet , Camille Pissarro and French Impressionism. It belonged to the Association of Artists and the Union of Painters Old Munich. Her pictures can be seen in the Bayerische Staatsgalerie, in the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus and in many private collections. She was also a member of the German Red Cross and co-author of a book about the life of her cousin King Alfonso XIII of Spain .

Pilar was a great athlete and traveled a lot (to Italy, Spain and North Africa). Her remains rest in the crypt of the Michaelskirche in Munich .
