The Pindar (also Pindari ) is a left tributary of the Alaknanda , the left source river of the Ganges , in the Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand .
The Pindar arises on the Pindari glacier . The headwaters of the Pindar are flanked by Nanda Kot ( 6861 m ) and Changuch ( 6322 m ) in the east and Nanda Khat ( 6611 m ) in the west. The Pindar initially flows in a south-westerly direction through the Bageshwar district and turns to the west after about 50 km and flows through the middle and lower reaches of the extreme south of the Chamoli district . The villages of Devaal , Tharali , Kulsari , Harmani , Meeng , Narain Bagar and Nalgaon are located on the course of the river Pindar . The Pindar finally flows into the Alaknanda at Karanprayag . The Pindar has a length of about 120 km. The Pindar is one of the few free-flowing tributaries of the Upper Ganges.
