Pinguicula filifolia is a species of butterflies ( Pinguicula ) within the water hose family(Lentibulariaceae). The two subspecies of this carnivorous plant since 2014are only found in Cuba.
Description and ecology
Pinguicula filifolia is an herbaceous plant . Fleshy, light green, thread-like leaves form a rosette , the individual leaves of which are up to 20 centimeters long. On the surface, the leaves are sticky from the secretion they use to catch small insects ( e.g. sciarid gnats , ants ) and, as soon as prey is obtained, digested by enzymes .
Pinguicula filifolia forms a single flower on a flower stem growing from the center of the rosette. The hermaphrodite flower is zygomorphic . The petals are blue, pink, or yellow.
Systematics and distribution
The first description of Pinguicula filifolia was made in 1866 by August Grisebach , the name of Charles Wright took over. Pinguicula filifolia belongs to the Agnata section from the genus of fatty herbs ( Pinguicula ).
Since 2014 there are two subspecies:
- Pinguicula filifolia subsp. alba Y.Domínguez, Panfet & V. Miranda : It was first described in 2014 from Cuba.
- Pinguicula filifolia C. Wright ex Griseb. subsp. filifolia : It is endemic to western Cuba . It grows on sandy soils in open, swampy savannahs .
